10 Ways to Have an Unforgettable College Spring Break on a Budget

When you hear “Spring Break” you probably immediately picture a giant party on a beach somewhere. But if your bank account doesn’t allow you to jet-set off to a tropical paradise, you can still have a heck of time (especially if you download the Go Commando app now to pick up some extra cash)!

1.) Road Trip

Skip out on expensive airfare and instead hit the open road with your friends in tow. You’re limited only by the amount of gas you can buy (Tip: have everyone pitch in for gas money – you’ll get much farther). The best thing about road trips, aside from the opportunity to bust out your sweet carpool karaoke skills, is that you can go just about anywhere.

2.) Go Camping

Sick of being cooped up all winter? Now’s your chance to hit up the great outdoors and reconnect with nature. We recommend avoiding bears, though. There are hundreds of National and State parks where you can escape the city and camp overnight for shockingly low fees. Gather ‘round a campfire with friends and perfect the art of making s’mores under the starry skies at your favorite campground.

5.) Night Out in the Big City

Rather than going all-out all week, instead pick one night to go paint the town red. Head to whatever major city is closest to you and do it big – dinner, clubs, a show, maybe even a limo to get you there! You’ll spend way less than you would on a full week’s vacation but you’ll probably come out with a good story or two!

6.) Enjoy a Staycation

If your wallet is feeling especially tight this year, opt for a staycation. Hit up a local pool, bust out the BBQ, and spend the week in the sun. You can work on that Spring Break tan from the comfort of your town. Pool party not your thing? This is the perfect opportunity to play tourist and check out the hotspots you’ve always avoided like the plague.

7.) Lake Time

Have a friend with a boat? Now’s the perfect time to spend the week on the lake. From cruising and tieing up off-shore to wakeboarding and tubing, the lake is a cheap but amazing place to spend your vacation.

8.) Get Some Culture

A week of parties may not be your cup of tea, so instead check out local museums and historical locations. Maybe take a class on painting (there are many places that offer one-off painting classes where you can even bring your favorite bottle of wine). Whatever it may be, this is your chance to have an uninterrupted week to bring some polish and art into your life.

9.) Learn to DIY

Have you been watching a lot of DIY network? Hands itching to build that new patio table or that wall decor you see on Pinterest? Take this week to go buck wild on a project and master some new skills. You’ll save money and at the end of the week (hopefully) you’ll have something amazing to show for it.

10.) Relax!

This one should be a no-brainer, but the easiest way to save money on Spring Break is just treat it like a really long weekend. Sleep in, play some video games, hang out with friends, read a book, and simply enjoy your time off. Maybe it isn’t the most exciting plan, but trust me – a week of doing nothing can be just as magical as a vacation.

What will you being doing for Spring Break this year?
